Reverse Imprinting

Plush fur mounted on the wall,
rug on the floor
A matching set
I run my hands over dull fangs
Marvel at how his mouth yawns
Sleeplessly
The space where a throat should be
Stretched wide, split open
Begin to think of others alike
Pig on a spit
Apple in mouth
And you know where that leads us,
right?

Watercolor books up in the loft
and under our bunk-beds
Daniel, me, and your favourite;
That shape which winds around the
tree
Get your grubby hands all over
glittering scales
Ruby-red or emerald green
Whatever the fruit, it's sweet
The story goes unheard
I only show you the pictures, words
all for me
We work better together

Make of your brother, a chimera
(Though you would rather us Orthrus
Guardian, before beast)
Think ourselves lion and serpent
both
One which eats its own tail
And I would, if you let me
Us, we
I tell you-
Devour thy cubs
Let each head turn against the other
Let twin hungers be fed
Upon their own bodies
